Lip Color Correction vs Lip Neutralization
A clear guide to lip color correction vs lip neutralization, healing, expectations and when consultation or medical approval may be needed.
Book consultationThe starting problem is different
Neutralization usually refers to working with naturally dark, cool or uneven lip pigmentation. Color correction can also refer to unwanted healed PMU from a previous procedure. The first question is therefore: are we correcting natural pigment, previous pigment, or both?
Previous PMU changes the plan
Old pigment has its own color, depth, saturation and shape. Adding more color is not automatically the right answer. Some cases can be improved with corrective pigment; others are better approached in stages.
Neutralization may come before the target shade
When the base is significantly cool or dark, trying to place the final preferred shade immediately may not be realistic. The first stage can be about creating a more balanced base.
Not every previous result should be covered
If existing pigment is too saturated, misplaced or unsuitable for a natural result, forcing a cover can make the problem harder. Assessment should include the option of delaying, staging or choosing another corrective route.
Photos help identify the category of problem
A clear natural-light photo can show whether the concern appears to be natural darkness, previous PMU or a mixture. Direct assessment is still needed before a final corrective plan.
Frequently asked questions
Is lip colour correction the same as neutralization?
They overlap, but not always. Neutralization often addresses natural dark/cool tones, while colour correction may also involve previous PMU.
Can every old lip tattoo be covered?
No. Saturation, placement and colour of previous pigment determine whether adding more pigment is appropriate.
Can correction and the final shade happen in one session?
Selected cases may allow more than one goal in a session, but darker or more complex cases may need staged work.
